Giannis Athanasiadis
Visual Artist
He was born and raised in Ano Poli, Thessaloniki, surrounded by its narrow cobblestone streets and breathtaking panoramic view of the city.
During his youth, he apprenticed under the pyrographer and painter Giorgos Papadopoulos, participated in carnival float construction groups, attended fashion design and interior decoration courses, graduated from the University of Macedonia, and, in parallel, devoted himself to painting and mixed media techniques. Through these, he externalized his own perceptions and feelings about the world he experienced. Art served for him as a magnifying glass, allowing him to capture the details of nature, imparting depth, quality, and intensity to his works.
His artistic expression has evolved and transformed in many ways into interactive visual art, and for the last 15 years, he has participated in group exhibitions.
Father of two children, Modi and Alexandra, himself a castle besieged by resilient defenses, he held his first solo exhibition in December 2023 with his beloved theme “Olives and Seas.”
He believes in the timelessness of mixed media techniques in his works—first as a gift from nature, and then as a refined technique that at times discreetly and at times boldly escapes the boundaries of the canvas, extending the thematic unity into space. The olive tree is a symbol of the Mediterranean, an inexhaustible source of inspiration, and a free form shaped only by nature itself. The sea is what gives life and supports people through difficult times.
Giannis Athanasiadis is a contemporary visual artist, wholly dedicated to painting, and his works are found in private collections both in Greece and abroad.
